The Three Graces of Greek mythology, also called Charities, were the constant attendants of Aphrodite (Venus), the goddess of love and beauty, mistress of the graces and of pleasures. Young, beautiful, and modest, they personified the graceful sensuousness of the female form. In this relief the articulation of the figures conveys a naturalism typical of the sculpture of the Hellenistic Age that distinguishes it from the more idealised Greek prototypes.
