Peter Carl Fabergé (Russian, 1846-1920) crafted beautiful objets d'art from precious metals and gems. His original and extravagant creations captivated the elite of Russian society, including the last two Romanov Czars. Commissioned by Czar Nicholas II for Czarina Alexandra Feodorovna in 1901 and acquired by Queen Mary in 1933, the Basket of Flowers Egg is evidence of Fabergé's interest in nature. Each flower was painstakingly modelled and enamelled to look as realistic as possible.
