Our hand-knotted Tiffany Scroll Pendant Necklace is adapted from the Art Nouveau-style scroll motifs from John T. Curran's (American, 1859-1933) Magnolia Vase design. The original vase was created for the World's Columbian Exhibition, held in Chicago in 1893 to celebrate the four hundredth anniversary of Columbus's discovery of the New World. Made of silver, gold, enamel, and opals, the vase seamlessly combines various late nineteenth-century trends-exoticism, naturalism, and Art Nouveau-in a distinctly American aesthetic. The vase's overall form is derived from Pueblo pottery and the curvilinear ornamentation on the handles relates to Toltec artifacts. Especially prominent in decorating the body of the vase are the magnolia blossoms and the goldenrod with its roots surrounding several opals on the base of the vase in a series of Art Nouveau-style scrolls. Sterling silver, with abalone and grey cultured freshwater pearls. Hand knotted Toggle closure. Removable pendant: 1 1/4''L. Pearl strand: 17 1/2''L.
