The shapes depicted here are believed to have been a parade of balloons, flags, and confetti. Authorised by the Frank Lloyd Wright Foundation, Taliesin West, Scottsdale, Arizona.

One of the most innovative and influential figures in modern architecture, Frank Lloyd Wright (American, 1867-1959) favoured simplicity and good craftsmanship and design over opulence. Exhibiting bold originality both in structure and aesthetics, his pioneering work helped to bolster the ideals of the Arts and Crafts movement. The whimsical Coonley Playhouse design is adapted from a 1908 stained-glass window made by Wright for the kindergarten, or playhouse, in the Avery Coonley residence (completed 1912) in Riverside, Illinois.
