A master of many media, Louis Comfort Tiffany (American, 1848-1933) was one of America's most noted decorative artists at the turn of the twentieth century. Son of the founder of the silver and jewellery firm Tiffany and Company of New York, he achieved fame in his own right in interior decoration and for his innovative leaded-glass windows. He approached his work in glass with a painter's eye for the nuances of colour and shadow. Favrile glass was the perfect medium through which Tiffany could express his unique blending of nature and exoticism.
